“Contemporary” is a phenomenon often used to describe the avant-garde and mainstream trends that have merged seamlessly with the present cultural environment. It is an ever-changing progression shaped by cultural diversity and coexistence; an organic cultural landscape that is constantly seeking a form of dialogue exchange as inspired by our everyday life. “Art” on the other hand, can be used to depict or redefine everyday objects as new meanings are being attached to the mundane. These objects are left to be embodied by the viewers’ imagination as they make associations with the familiar. Exploring these aforementioned terms within Savoy Centre, Nienting and Jaxton came together to create a site-specific work This is “contemporary” “art”. The two artists attempt to assemble together a myriad of seemingly unrelated objects created using their own emotional and poetic associations with a variety of materials that can be found everywhere in their daily lives, in hope that these peculiar objects will encourage diverse dialogue exchange. The site-specific installation presents a nostalgic home party ambience as viewers are drawn into the space to view the curious objects.
