Abyss is a volcano-shaped wax installation that has a unique kaleidoscope-inspired mirror collage built within its
interior. It can be viewed from the top as the landform spins and create an illusory experience for the viewer. The
work explores the artist’s belief that each of us has a different side hidden somewhere within us waiting to be awaken,
just like a dormant volcano. These different versions of us often spark illusions within us, such as memory distortion,
emotional deception and the false perception of self. The artwork is an exploration of the latent self and the illusions
within the self in the form of an inner landscape as inspired by the natural phenomena of the volcano and the romantic
sublime.
